Marion Emanuel Sells is my second great uncle born March 21, 1865, in Chambersburg, Clark, Missouri. My mother, Nancy Gertrude Brumley when speaking about him always called him “Uncle Manny”. His parents were Marion Abraham Sells and Samaria Alice Thompson. His other siblings were; Sarah Maria 1863, Dorcas Ann 1867, Columbus 1869, Elijah Marion 1873, Samaria Alice 1874, Amos 1876, Lieu Edith 1878, Dollie 1881, Lottie 1882, Grover Cleveland 1884, and John Wesley Sells 1889.
He and his siblings were raised on the Missouri-Iowa line. He spent much of his life in Clark County, Missouri helping his father with farming the land. He was nineteen years old when he married Julia Alice Rathburn on February 19, 1885, in Memphis, Scotland, Missouri. My mother always referred to her as “Aunt Julie”.
Their first son was born in Chambersburg, Missouri in 1886, other siblings followed Anna Gertrude 1888, Marion Hampton 1890, Mabel Alice 1892, Ernest Dolphy Sells 1909. In the 1910 Missouri Census, they were living in Union in Laclede County. in 1920 they were living in Kansas City, Ward 5, Wyandotte, Kansas. My mother got to visit quite often with his family and her cousins. In 1924 and 1925 they were still living in Kansas City, Kansas.
It is not known where Marion Emanuel Sells is buried, he died on July 23, 1928, in Eldon, Miller, Missouri. He was sixty-three years old. His wife Julia Rathburn Sells is buried in the Dooley Cemetery in Eldon, she died on December 17, 1958, in Versailles, Morgan, Missouri at the age of ninety-one years old. I could not find either Death Certificate in Missouri.
